Exclusive Derry Girls behind-the-scenes photos at episode three shooting set

The cast of Channel 4's Derry Girls have been captured filming in Downpatrick for the new series in behind-the-scenes photos.

Downpatrick and County Down Railway, Ireland's only full-size heritage railway hosted the filming cast and crew during the shooting of the final season of Derry Girls.

And Mike, a worker on the railway, posted an abundance of amazing photos that show what it's like to film the hilarious sitcom in real time.

On their Facebook post, the company wrote: "Did we enjoy our day trip to Portrush via Downpatrick last night? How about some more holiday snaps?

"We're grateful to the Derry Girls cast who allowed us to share some of their amazing photos of themselves at the DCDR last October, namely Tara Lynn O'Neill, Amy Huberman and Michael Fry, pretending a cold autumn week was actually a warm sunny summer's day!"

During filming in October, the cast of Derry Girls can be spotted in large coats to battle the cold autumn air as they had summer style clothing underneath, to depict the family away to Portrush for a family day out.

This episode was streamed on Tuesday evening, much to the Derry Girls fans delight as they watched the cast bicker and joke on the train to Portrush.

Lots of comments filtered under the railway company's post of people recognising the station and posting their fond memories of travelling through the station.

One Facebook comment read: "My memories of trains in the 90s was trying to get off at Dhu-Varren (un manned) Halt and always having the panic of getting the door window down and turning that outside latch to open the door in time."

Another wrote: "Thank you Downpatrick and County Down Railway for sharing these wonderful photos...was great to see the station and trains getting some airtime."

And a third said: "Loved the episode- so we did!"

Filming and camera crew can be seen all around in the photos, as the whole cast posed for the lens while they shot the scenes.

Derry Girls will return to our television screens next Tuesday, May 3 at 9pm on Channel 4.
