Excitement over 'quirky' new Nottingham pizza restaurant expected to 'be a hit'

Plans are in place for a new pizzeria in Nottingham, and people have said it "can be a hit" as it sounds "quirky" and is in a "good location". Pizza Punks is what is says on the tin - a punk-themed pizzeria that serves, according to their website, pizzas that take the best bits from Neapolitan and New York pizzas.

There are six other Pizza Punks in the UK - with restaurants in Belfast, Glasgow, Durham, Leeds, Leicester and Newcastle. Nottingham would be home to the seventh, and a licensing application has been submitted to Nottingham City Council for a new restaurant to open in Unit 2 & 3 of One Fletcher Gate by the Lace Market tram stop.

If approved, Pizza Punks will open every day from 10am to 1.30am the following morning, and will serve alcohol and have recorded music on until half-an-hour before closing. Representations can be made to the city council by July 21, and people in the city centre think it will prove popular.

Ola Simone, 20, an economics student at Nottingham Trent University, said: "It can be a hit if it is publicised well. There are a lot of shops here that I've never heard about. I'd have to try it out. Red Dog Saloon is quite popular so this isn't a bad location for a pizza place."

Elise Garside, 18, a student who lives in Gamston, said: "It'll be successful, especially being next to a tram stop. Everyone will like it, trust me. It'll be a good thing, it sounds quirky and all my friends would go there. We definitely need a new place like this."

Scientist James Martin, 39, said: "Hockley is a good area for that kind of alternative-type pizza place. I think it'll be great." Fatmata Jalloh, 18, a business student who lives in St Ann's, said: "It should be alright. There are not many restaurants in this area.

"Hopefully if it is successful people will be attracted to it. Once they've got the right advertisement then people will definitely go. The location is good too because there are so many restaurants on the other side of town. This place should draw more attraction on this side."

Dan Westwood, 23, a psychology student at Nottingham Trent University, added: "It sounds very different from your usual pizza restaurant. As long as it's not too expensive, I'd say it will be a go-to for a lot of people." The restaurant looks set to open within the Two Seasons shop which appears to have closed.
