Excitement as plans put forward to create new Chinese restaurant near Wollaton's Crown Island

Proposals to transform a motorcycle store and warehouse into a new Chinese restaurant and bar near Wollaton's Crown Island have been welcomed.

A planning application has been lodged to transform Needham Motorcycles into the restaurant on Wollaton Road.

Public planning documents say the business is currently vacant and the new restaurant would install extractor fans to counter any smells coming from the venue.

Opening hours would be from 10am to 11pm seven days a week.

Residents in the area welcomed the proposed change and said a choice of restaurants for the area was positive.

Joe Gregory, 29, an engineer of Wollaton, said: "I think it sounds a good idea. I like various of choices of places to go and eat. You can't beat a good Chinese as well.

"Hopefully it will be good for the area. Crown Island is busy with business already so I think this will provide a bit of choice."

Sally McPhail, 44, of Wollaton, added: "It sounds nice to me. I think I'd give it try as long as the interior was nicely done and it was a pleasant place to eat. Nottingham isn't shy of eateries but the ones that are good stand the test of time, so we'll see with this.

Kevin Norton, 50, who works in retail, of Wollaton added: "Chinese sounds good to me. I hope it's a nice little spot. I can't see any issues and it would give the area a lift."

Details in the application's design and access statement said: "The existing site is currently situated within a predominately residential outlets with retail units situated nearby.

"The existing building is currently a vacant commercial property single storey with basement

"Car parking spaces are provided by using nearby designated public parking area in Kennington Road.

"Many of the customers will be local or student users which will visit the proposed café/restaurant by walking and the use of public transport / taxis, therefore it is envisaged there will be no issues with off site parking."

The planning application was submitted to Nottingham City Council by Mr Vipin Velji of Spicy House. The scheme will now be discussed by the council's planning department.
