Excitement as crew spotted filming in Leeds for new BBC drama series

Film crews have been spotted shooting in Leeds city centre for a brand new BBC drama set to be "thrilling".

The new series called Better, is a six part series set in the city - using the landscapes and surrounding countryside in Leeds to portray the "epic battle of one woman's soul", the directors previously said. Written by Sam Vincent and Jonathon Brackley the drama showcases a family tragedy about corrupt police detectives who have a painful moral awakening after 20 years.

Last month the location team warned Leeds residents with a letter that they would be filming in the Corn Exchange on April 11. They confirmed that another letter would be sent in coming weeks for further filming.

And after filming at Hidden Wardrobe yesterday afternoon, they were also spotted in St Paul's Street and South Parade "throughout the night", one witness recalls. Alex Hodgkinson, who lives in the area, reported that the St Paul's Street was closed throughout the night and "stars" were spotted on the street.

While a staff member at South Parade's beloved restaurant San Carlo said: "We saw lots of crew last night they were filming throughout the night. They were very secretive though. But they [the crew] have all gone today."

Over 10 people were spotted wrapped up warm and tents were put up. An actress with dark hair wearing black jeans, booted heels, a light blue blouse, and a blazer appeared to be the star of the show - shooting solo shots and being in most scenes.

Writers Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley told TellyMix: "The idea has been in our heads for 10 years, and we’re hugely fortunate to be telling it at last with the help of our old friends at the mighty Sister, in the great city of Leeds - and for BBC One, the perfect home for this very British story.”

A full synopsis said: "After a family tragedy is narrowly averted, a corrupt police detective undergoes a painful moral awakening and decides to put right 20 years of wrongdoing - but satisfying her newfound conscience won’t be straightforward.

"She slowly realises that her redemption will only be complete once she brings down the powerful gangster she has worked for all this time, a man she helped rise to power, and has come to love like a brother."

More details including a release date and casting are to be announced.
