Example emotional after TRNSMT performance as he looks back on 15-year career

Example was in tears backstage following his performance on the main stage at TRNSMT.

The hitmaker, who is one of the nicest people you could meet in the music biz, admitted he was crying in his dressing room after performing at the Scots festival.

He exclusively told The Daily Record: “It was emotional. I was crying in my dressing room after the performance because fifteen years is a long time to be here.”

Example whose real name is Elliot John Gleave has been releasing music since 2006.

He’s had huge success with anthems like Kickstarts, Kids Again, Changed The Way You Kissed Me, and more recently Sun Hits Your Eyes and All Night.

The talent, who now lives in Australia with his model wife Erin McNaught and their young children Evander and Ennio, said: “These days most people have two three years if that. The key thing to mention here is wherever you do, like me or the band playing the King Tuts tent, the reaction from that crowd is enough to give you faith and hope in your career.”

Example spoke exclusively to Daily Record reporter Bev Lyons (Bev Lyons/ Reach)

“I work hard, put on a good show and try and write the best songs possible so everyone can have a good time but I do think about how horrible this industry can be to people.

“I feel like I’ve lived through a few eras now and there’s people that have worked their asses off to get a number one and it’s such an unfair industry.”

He added: “The reason I’m so emotional today is because I’ve had so many ups and downs.

"To be in this industry for fifteen years now is mind boggling and I’m my own biggest fan now. I don’t mean that in a big headed way.

"I mean it in the most humble way possible. I spent so long trying to compete with other people.

"My peer group, other rappers and MCs and that’s not healthy. The moment you stop thinking about that, you make the best music possible.

"If there’s any young music makers out there whatever genre of music, focus on yourself and what it are doing. Idolise other people but don’t try to compete.”
