Exact time you can see the ISS as it passes over Merseyside tonight

The International Space Station is set to pass over UK skies again this July, meaning stargazers can catch of glimpse of it from Merseyside.

The ISS is the largest space station/laboratory ever built and orbits Earth at 17500mph at an altitude of roughly 200 miles.

When the space station passes over it will travel from a westerly direction, heading east.

And if the clouds break tonight, you should be able to spot the bright, fast-moving dot as it passes above the Earth at around 10.41pm.

An average good pass can last about five minutes.

The ISS looks like an incredibly bright, fast-moving star or aircraft. However, the ISS has no flashing lights and it can be much brighter.

It takes around 90 minutes for the space station to orbit the Earth meaning it’s possible to see at least two or three passes in the early morning or late evening.

The latest rocket to visit the ISS was the Space X Cargo Dragon and it touched down back down to Earth on Friday in the Gulf of Mexico and was retrieved shortly afterwards.

It is believed to be carrying around 5,000 pounds of space station research.

Astronauts Akihiko Hoshide, Shane Kimbrough, Megan McArthur, Thomas Pesquet, Oleg Novitsky, Pyotr Dubrov and Mark Vande Hei are currently aboard the ISS.

The station will be visible for the next two weeks, so if you miss tonight's passing you should be able to catch another.
