After downpours and near gale-force winds struck Bristol yesterday (July 10), the Met Office is today forecasting thunderstorms to hit the city this afternoon (July 11). Storms are currently expected to arrive in the city in the evening, following a day of showers and strong, gusty winds.
It comes after a weekend of unsettled weather caused flooding and disruption in other parts of the region. More bad weather followed yesterday, with buckets of rain accompanied by 30mph winds. The only thing missing from the storm was thunder and lightening.
Which the Met Office forecasts for around 6pm tonight. The storms are due to blow in from the south west, coming up from Somerset and Devon.

A series of scattered showers are expected to plague the South West throughout the late morning and afternoon, with up to 32mm of rain falling per hour in parts of the city. The forecaster predicts these showers will turn into thunderstorms from around 6pm, lasting until 8pm.
The storms are still expected to be scattered, and are also predicted to affect south east Wales, northern Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, according to the Met Office weather map.
More rain is due later in the week, though things are currently expected to become calmer as the week progresses. The Met Office says showers will continue, though they are expected to lighten up ahead of the weekend, when things turn unsettled once more.

Today: Cloud and rain in the east soon clearing to give some bright or sunny spells and scattered showers. Showers could turn heavy with a chance of the odd rumble of thunder. Another fairly breezy day with similar temperatures to Monday. Maximum temperature 20 °C.
Tonight: Showers gradually easing through the evening to leave a largely dry night with some clear spells developing. Breezy along the coasts though easing and feeling slightly cooler. Minimum temperature 10 °C.
Wednesday: Further sunshine and scattered showers, perhaps merging for a time during the morning. Showers could be heavy and locally thundery. Remaining breezy, especially along the exposed coasts. Maximum temperature 21 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Showers on Thursday though not as many than of late. Turning unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain on Friday and Saturday. Rather breezy and temperatures around average.
