The UK is set to see the return of a scorching heatwave soon, with temperatures to soar once again from next month.
Preliminary data from forecasters at the Met Office show that June has been the hottest month in the UK ever, with more warm weather to come, reports the Mirror.
There have been long spells of scorching temperatures and clear skies throughout the month, reaching into the 30Cs in Scotland in June.
However, typical British weather returned and heavy showers hit, with more storms to come this week alongside milder temperatures.
However, with July just around the corner, forecasters are predicting yet another heatwave for the UK. This new heatwave is predicted to even beat 2022's record-breaking temperature in Lincolnshire of 40.3C.
In Scotland, the hottest ever temperature was 34.8C recorded in the Borders in 2022. Scotland recorded its hottest day of 2023 in June in Dumfries and Galloway, which reached 30.7C.
The Met Office said indications for "above-average temperatures are stronger" from July 12 to July 26. This means that the "occurrence of heatwaves carries a correspondingly higher likelihood".
Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey told The Mirror: "Towards the middle to the end of July there is an increasing chance that high pressure may become established.
"On balance northern areas are more likely to see drier conditions with southern areas seeing greater risk of showers and thunderstorms.
"We can say there is a greater than normal chance of heat waves for the whole period of the middle to the end of July."
A heatwave is categorised as when temperatures reach the threshold of 25C in Scotland, and remain there for three days or more.
And according to Jonathan: "Because of the change in climate our extreme temperatures are continuously being pushed.
"There is an increasing chance these extremes could get pushed further.
"We got 40C last year and before that happened no one thought there was an outside chance. There’s also a possibility we do continue to see those trends."
According to The Weather Company, who are branded the world's most accurate forecaster, further heatwaves are expected in the UK in early and late July.
Before we get excited about the good weather, however, the outlook over the coming days is similar to the weekend in Scotland - mild but blustery and wet.
BBC Weather's forecast for Scotland going into this weekend states: "Friday will see a cloudy and dry start but in the afternoon spells of heavy rain will move in from the west. Breezier.
"Saturday will see a mix of sunny spells and cloudier intervals in the morning, but turning largely sunny in the afternoon
"Sunday will be similar with sunny spells and cloudier intervals to start, but turning largely sunny in the afternoon. Turning rather windy."
