Exact date Scotland will heat up as Met Office predicts three-week warm spell

Scotland is to see gloomy bouts of weather this week, but forecasters have revealed exactly when things will heat up again.

While it's been a mixed bag of sun and rain this Spring, the next season is set to be a warm one. The Met Office predicts temperatures will gradually rise this month and are set to heat up this week from Saturday, May 20.

The long range weather forecast anticipates a "good amount of fine and dry weather for most" that's to last until Sunday, May 28. June is set to be a warm one thanks to a bout of high pressure that will be strong across Scotland, particularly in the north with "higher than average temperatures" until Monday, June 12.

Cool conditions and rain are predicted until Friday, heavy at times with some sunny spells throughout.

The Met Office said: "Some showers likely to develop on Friday across much of the UK, interspersed with sunny spells. Mainly dry across parts of the northwest and southeast and possibly breezy here.

"Into the weekend a high-pressure ridge is most likely to extend across the UK, resulting in a good amount of fine and dry weather for most. Into the next week a continuation of these settled conditions is expected, with fine and dry weather for many."

Looking to next month, high pressure will remain across Scotland until mid June, resulting in warm and clear conditions. The forecast continued: "Into June, high pressure is predicted to remain dominant, especially for northern areas, with cloud, rain and showers more likely to the south, although there is a level of uncertainty associated with this.

"An increased likelihood of above average temperatures for many."

Monday, May 15 will see scattered showers, particularly in Northern Scotland, with temperatures cooling on Tuesday with showers persisting throughout the day. Wednesday and Thursday will be "predominantly fine", but rain will affect the northwest at times.
