Exact date Ireland’s mini-heatwave to come to soaking end as Met Eireann forecast big weather change

Ireland is set to enjoy a short blast of warm air before a big weather change at the weekend.

Met Eireann says the country will bask in 22C highs with mostly sunny spells mid-week.

Wednesday is due to start off dull before improving in the afternoon as sunny spells break through, while Thursday’s set to be similar with dry and bright spells forecast for the afternoon.

But things are set to take a turn from Friday as low pressure takes over.

The national forecaster said: “Friday is likely to be a wet day with a band of rain spreading northeast through the country, followed by showers and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C with light to moderate southerly winds.”

Looking ahead to the weekend, it added: “Quite unsettled with low pressure dominating the weather over Ireland, bringing showers or longer spells of rain with temperatures in the mid to high teens, and moderate variable breezes.”

It comes as Met Eireann’s long-range forecast for Friday, June 24 to Thursday, June 30 also confirms wet weather is on the way.

Above-average rainfall and below-average temperatures are forecast.

Met Eireann said: “Low pressure to the north of Ireland will maintain a generally westerly airflow over the period, becoming strong at times near coasts. The low pressure will provide generally unsettled conditions with a good deal of cloud and frequent bands of showery rain.

“The week is forecast to see around 20 mm more precipitation than usual for the time of year, with temperatures around 2 degrees cooler than average.”
