Sam Huard, the former quarterback at Washington, announced Monday that he will play at FCS program Cal Poly next season.
“Excited for the next chapter, #rollstangs,” Huard said in a tweet.
Huard joins a Cal Poly program that finished 2-9 and 1-7 in the Big Sky Conference in the 2022 season.
Huard, the No. 5 quarterback in the 2021 edition of the SI99, entered the transfer portal on Jan. 10. The move stems from the success of Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who led the Huskies to an 11-2 overall mark and 7-2 record in the Pac-12 and finished eighth in Heisman voting in ’22.
In two seasons with the Huskies, Huard completed 24 of 44 passes. Last season, he was limited to only two passes in Washington’s game against Portland State and one touchdown and four interceptions during the ’21 campaign.
Huard leaves a Washington program that once was led by his father, Damon, a former quarterback for the team from ’92 to 95. Huard is also a nephew of Brock Huard, who was a Huskies signal caller from ’96 to ’98.
