Ex-Tottenham star says Antonio Conte 'will definitely' look for transfer solution to big problem

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte "isn’t happy" with his current options at wing-back and will address the situation in the summer transfer window, according to former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson. Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon have both deputised for the injured Matt Doherty in recent weeks but failed to impress.

Conte has regularly changed his wing-backs in his favoured 3-4-3 formation, eventually deploying Doherty on the left-hand side. A role in which the Irishman was beginning to thrive until he picked up a season-ending injury during the 4-0 win at Aston Villa, as revealed by football.london.

In his absence Spurs have failed to score or register a single shot on target against Brighton and Brentford respectively, and whilst this isn’t solely down to Doherty’s absence they have undoubtedly missed his spark. And Robinson believes that Conte will seek to sign new wing-backs in the summer as he simply does not rate the ones he has at his disposal.

"They have missed Doherty. He’s been their best full-back this season which says a lot when he couldn’t get a game last year," he told Football Insider.

"I was surprised to see Sessegnon started [against Brentford]. I want to see Reguilon given more time but he hasn’t hit the heights expected.

"The fact that the manager changes the full-backs regularly shows you that the manager is not happy. Emerson [Royal] has an opportunity until the end of the season but he was brought off at Brentford. Conte is clearly not happy with them.

"He will definitely be looking to bring in a couple in those areas in the summer. The wing-backs is an area he has to address because he clearly doesn’t believe in Emerson, Reguilon or Sessegnon.

"In this system you need top players in those areas. The wing-backs are as important as the central striker."
