Former Tennessee Titans safety Johnathan Cyprien has announced that he is retiring from the NFL, something he will make official at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Everbank Stadium on Thursday.
Cyprien made the announcement via Twitter. The former second-round pick of the Jaguars last played a snap in the NFL in 2020 with the San Francisco 49ers.
After four years in Jacksonville, Cyprien signed a four-year, $25 million deal with the Titans. He appeared in 10 games in 2017 but suffered a torn ACL prior to the 2018 campaign.
That injury opened the door for the signing of fellow safety Kenny Vaccaro, who thrived in the Titans’ defense in 2018 before landing himself an extension in 2019 that allowed Tennessee to part ways with Cyprien.

Cyprien would eventually land on his feet with the Philadelphia Eagles and was traded to the Atlanta Falcons a few months later but landed on season-ending injured reserve after just one game.
He played in four games with the Niners in 2020, his last in the NFL.
