Ex-Titans RB Bishop Sankey joins scouting staff for training camp

Former Tennessee Titans running back Bishop Sankey will join the team’s scouting staff during training camp as a Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellow, the team announced on Tuesday morning.

“The Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship, created by the NFL in January 2015, exposes interested and qualified candidates to a career in professional scouting,” the NFL writes on its website. “The program will give participants a unique glimpse into Player Personnel by introducing them to various areas related to college and pro scouting within a club.”

Along with Sankey, the Titans announced that former Auburn volleyball player Chesney McLellan, who is pursuing a master’s degree at Belmont, is this year’s Amy Adams Strunk Women in Football intern.

Tennessee also has five coaches participating as part of the league’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, including Eastern Kentucky’s Jeremy Hawkins, Wisconsin’s Ashley Cornwell, Jackson State’s TC Taylor, U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Derik Abbott, and Virginia Tech’s Justin Hamilton.

Sankey is a former second-round pick of the Titans in 2014. He played in 29 games over two seasons with the Titans, tallying 199 rushes for 762 yards, 32 catches for 272 yards, and four total touchdowns (three rushing).

The Titans waived Sankey prior to the 2016 campaign. In the next year, Sankey landed with the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings, but never played in a game for any of the three.

Sankey then tried his hand in the Canadian Football League, but that didn’t pan out, either, and he eventually retired in 2021 at the age of 29.

The Titans are set to begin training camp on July 26.
