Ex-Titans LB Avery Williamson lands high school coaching job

Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Avery Williamson is trying his hand as a high school linebackers coach.

According to Brandon Shields of The Jackson Post, Williamson will be taking the job at Jackson Christian in Tennessee.

“I really had no connection with Jackson Christian a few months ago, but things really worked out over the last couple of months to lead me to come here, and I’m pumped about it,” Williamson said of landing the job.

Williamson, who also played with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers during his seven-year career, admitted retirement got a little boring, which led to his interest in coaching.

“Honestly, [retirement] was nice, but it was also boring,” he said. “But I took that year to figure out my next move, and last fall was my first time that I can remember not playing football. I wasn’t even involved in football, and I knew I needed to figure out what I’m supposed to do next.”

After hosting a linebackers camp in Jackson back in May, head coach Darby Palmer contacted Williamson to gauge his interest in the job. After thinking about it, the the 31-year-old accepted.

“After the camp, Coach Ervin told me that it sounded like the coaching staff might be wanting to talk to me about coming to join them, and [Jackson Christian head coach Darby Palmer] reached out a few days later,” Williamson said.

Williamson is the latest former Titan to land a high school coaching job, as former safety Blaine Bishop recently accepted a role as the secondary coach at Independence High School.
