A former team-mate of Love Island star Jacques O'Neill has revealed that he once went the wrong way on the motorway - while riding a bicycle! O'Neill, 23, was contracted to Castleford Tigers before being released to head into the villa but made quite an impression both on and off the field with his teammates.
O'Neill was popular among his former teammates but was at times on the receiving of practical jokes, with one of those re-told by former Tigers captain. Speaking on Proper Sport, the England international explained how O'Neill had managed to get himself in a near-life-or-death scenario. After describing him as a 'lovely kid', Gale told the tale of O'Neill's bicycle adventure.
"His first full week in training, he doesn't drive or anything like that. He's living in Beeston with one of the conditioners. He says to Paul McShane, who lives in Belle Isle, can he get a lift. Paul says 'yeah you'll have to be at mine for eight in the morning'.
"He says he'll cycle up, set off at 7 and be at his for 8. He rings Paul back three hours later and says there's one problem, he doesn't have a bike!
"Anyway, he finally sorted a bike, he borrowed a bike. He gets dropped off and he's driving home from Belle Isle to Beeston. He gets his sat nav on his phone as if he's in the car and he's driving and for some reason he facetimes Macca and says 'Paul I'm lost, I'm on the M621 on a bike!' He was driving the wrong way down the motorway on a bicycle.
"Honestly, he got the sat nav as he was in a car and he's just gone on the hard shoulder, he said cars were beeping at him and everything."
O'Neill is set to be one of the stars of the summer on the ITV2 hit show. He is currently coupled up with Paige, but his ex, Gemma Owen, is also in the villa.
