Former NBA forward Jarell Martin is returning to the NBL with the Adelaide 36ers.

Martin was the Sydney Kings' starting centre in the first of back-to-back championships under former coach Chase Buford before taking up an opportunity in Israel.

Strongest as a power forward, the 208cm Louisiana native has signed a one-year deal to help the 36ers recover from last season's ninth-placed finish.

Scott Ninnis will hope to maximise on chemistry between Martin and talismanic guard Dejan Vasiljevic, who was also part of the Kings' 2021/22 championship season.

"(Martin) knows the league and he is a proven winner and it's exciting to see what he can bring to this roster moving forward," coach Ninnis said.

Martin played 192 NBA games across four seasons after being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies with a first-round pick in 2015.

He averaged 16.8 points and 7.7 rebounds across two NBL campaigns with the Kings and has since represented EuroLeague side Maccabi Tel Aviv as well as Turkey's Galatasaray.

His arrival leaves the 36ers with one import spot to fill after American guard Kendric Davis joined from the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State's G League affiliate.

Former Cairns forward Lat Mayen and college big man Ben Griscti are also new to the 36ers this season.
