Ex-Sunderland man Duncan Watmore joins Millwall - and could make his debut against Black Cats

Former Sunderland striker Duncan Watmore has made a deadline day move from Middlesbrough to Millwall - and could make his debut for the Lions against the Black Cats this weekend. Watmore was out of contract on Teesside at the end of the season and has joined the London side for an undisclosed fee.

Sunderland head to The Den this weekend in the Championship and Watmore could make his first appearance for Gary Rowett's side against the Black Cats less than a fortnight after he faced the Wearsiders wearing Boro colours at the Stadium of Light. Watmore came on as a substitute late in the game as Sunderland won 2-0 against Boro thanks to goals from Ross Stewart and Amad.

The 28-year-old joined Sunderland in 2013 and went on to represent England at U21 level before suffering two cruciate ligament injuries which meant he played just half-a-dozen games in two years. He made a total of 87 appearances for Sunderland in all competitions, scoring eight goals, before departing in the summer of 2020 and subsequently joining Boro.
