Former Scotland international Gary Teale has been left out of pocket after his football firm collapsed.
The former St Mirren boss was the face of Hexagol (Sports) UK Ltd, which sold pop-up cages designed to help players hone their skills.
But the Glasgow firm has gone into liquidation after admitting it couldn’t pay its debts, with the last accounts in 2021 showing it owed nearly £500,000 after being hit by the pandemic.
Teale, 44, had sunk his own cash into the venture and was also Hexagol’s technical director, playing a “major part of the project, working with academies, clubs and our partners in UK, China, Cyprus and Europe”.
The company launched its cages in 2019 before Covid.
St Mirren stars including Jim Goodwin and Kirk Broadfoot helped to show off the mini-arenas, in which players competed for points in wireless games testing their skills.
The Old Firm and Manchester City were among the clubs leasing them for £300 a month for community sessions. Teale won the League Cup with St Mirren in 2013 and was Buddies boss in 2014/15.
He won 13 caps for Scotland, including the famous 1-0 Hampden win against world champions France in 2006.
Hexagol was approached for comment.
