Ex-Rangers star Ryan Kent discovers Fenerbahce fate

Former Rangers star Ryan Kent appears to be set for the chop from Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce squad.

The 27-year-old has endured a difficult time in Turkey since making the move after leaving the Ibrox club last summer.

He joined on a free transfer upon his release by the Scottish Premiership side.

But it soon became clear that things weren't working out for the one-time Liverpool kid, with the hope of reigniting his career in the Turkish Super Lig quickly disappearing.

He started just nine matches for Fenerbahce last season and quickly became frozen out of the first-team picture by then-manager Ismail Kartal.

Mourinho was the headline appointment this summer as he arrived in Turkey for the latest step in his glittering management career.

The Portuguese coach has seen Kent up close in training since returning to pre-season last week.

It seems that has not been enough to convince the Special One that Kent should remain as part of his squad for the upcoming campaign, though.

Turkish outlet Sabah claims Mourinho is set to cut the list of foreign players in his squad from 15 down to nine. This means that six players - including Kent - will be shown the door.

The quota for foreign players allowed in each top-flight league squad has been reduced from 14 to 12.

And the report states that along with Kent,  Luan Peres, Rade Krunic, Miha Zajc, Miguel Crespo and Joao Pedro will all be allowed to leave.

Dominik Livakovic, Dusan Tadic and Edin Dzeko are the big names in Fenerbahce's squad.

The six out-of-favour players have all still been called up for the team's pre-season camp in Austria this month.

Rumours have recently surfaced online that a return to Rangers could be on the cards for Kent, however, it's believed this is just conjecture at this point.
