Ex-Rangers star Margo Negri jokes about injury hell over Sergio Porrini reunion beers

Marco Negri laughed off the injury hell he endured while at Rangers - as he shared reunion beers with former Gers teammate Sergio Porrini. The retired striker, 52, posted a picture to Twitter of him and Porrini, 54, drinking pints of Corona.

The snap was captioned: "Sergio no squash for tonight… just a good beer after so many years". The mention of squash is a reference to the injury that Negri suffered while at Ibrox which derailed his whole career.

Fans were delighted to see the pair together, especially the lesser spotted Porrini. One wrote: "Sergio looked older when he played for us. Man's aged well".

Another said: "One of the best Right Backs I can recall at Rangers. Mr Consistent, technically great and a heart of a lion.". One joked: "Legends right there .. not a ping pong ball in sight". And one fan wrote: "You guys look magic! Cheers Troops!".

The Italians were close pals during their time in Glasgow, both playing for the light blues from 1997 to 2001. Negri made a storming start to his career in Scotland, netting an incredible 23 goals in his first 10 league games.

That amazing run included scoring all five in the 5-1 win over Dundee United in August 1997. But he suffered a serious eye injury while playing squash with Porrini, went on to suffer from further injuries and failed to regain the same blistering form.

He was eventually sold to Bologna, one of his former clubs, and only scored a total of 10 goals in the last five years of his career. He retired in 2005 while playing for Perugia, the club Rangers signed him from, in his homeland.

Porrini, who had been signed from Juventus, also returned to his homeland after leaving Ibrox. He signed for Alessandria, before moving to Padova and retiring whilst at Pizzighettone.
