Ex-Rangers star Josh Windass 'striving for more' as he adds to impressive Sheffield Wednesday stats

Josh Windass is 'striving for more' at Sheffield Wednesday after taking his goal and assists tally to an impressive 20 for the campaign.

The former Rangers man was on hand to fire home from close-range twice as the Owls kept up their charge for the English League One title was an impressive 3-0 win over Morecambe. Barry Bannan got them off to the perfect start with a goal inside the opening minute before Windass added a second midway through the first half. He then grabbed his second of the match with three minutes to play to seal a convincing home win.

The one-time Light Blues attacker has now notched 13 goals and seven assists to date with a memorable double in the FA Cup against English Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United. Celtic hero Scott Brown and his Fleetwood Town ended their dream in that competition in the next round but a promotion bid to the English Championship is well on course and this victory kept them second in the table just two points behind Plymouth Argyle at the top - with a game in hand.

Posting his Instagram page after the win, Windass wrote: "Happy to contribute, good mentality tonight after a tough few games. 20 G/A and striving for more."

It is not only the front end of the park that Wednesday have impressed with Darren Moore's men keeping an 18th clean sheet of the season to break a club record, with just under a third of the campaign to go.

He told the official club website: “It’s credit to the players because every single one of them has had a part to play.

“As a former defender I love clean sheets and well done to the players because this is a result of the hard work over the course of a long, demanding season so far.

“The goalkeepers and defenders will take the headlines and they deserve that, but getting so many clean sheets means the work rate is there all over the pitch.

“As nice as the records are, there is still a long way to go, we have to keep our focus, keep our mentality and move on to the next game because the turnaround is quick for MK Dons on Saturday.”
