Ex-Rangers star Jermain Defoe has sparked fears that his marriage may be over after spending Christmas apart from his wife. The former striker wed wife Donna in a lavish affair last year in a £200k ceremony with 360 guests.
The big day took place in June 2022, with several former England footballers including Carlton Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ledley King all in attendance. The ceremony took place in Berkshire's Cliveden House and was featured across 14 pages of OK! magazine.
At the time, Defoe said: "This is my future, this is forever, this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with." However it now appears forever might not be on the cards for the pair, reports the Mirror.
Wife Donna has reverted to her maiden name on social media and unfollowed her husband. She also spent Christmas with family in Glasgow, with Jermain nowhere to be seen.
He was instead enjoying the Christmas break on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. The 40-year-old has also been pictured without his wedding ring in snaps on social media.
In posts on her Instagram account over the holidays, Donna suggested she was happy to see the back of 2022 and looking forward to 2023 instead. She posted: "Some people will take you out of the rain and dry you off, some will stand with you and some will turn the rain into a hurricane."
The couple were last pictured together at a champagne party for Jermain's birthday eight weeks ago and both of the newlyweds have removed all pictures of their wedding from social media. A source speaking to The Sun on Sunday said: "The marriage seems to be in trouble.
"You would think they would want to spend their first Christmas together as husband and wife but they haven’t so things aren’t looking at all good." The Mirror has approached Jermain Defoe's agent for comment.
