Ex-Rangers star Filip Helander set for dream transfer move after Ibrox exit

Former Rangers star Filip Helander looks set to land a dream move to Serie A with Cagliari.

The Swedish defender was released by the Ibrox club this summer after an injury-hit season. Helander hasn't played for over a year because of a problem with the bone structure in his foot.

However, he is set for a surprise return to Italian football's top flight with newly-promoted Sardinian side Cagliari ready to snap up the 30-year-old.

Helander previously played in Serie A with Verona and Bologna and his former club Malmo were keen to offer him a return to his Swedish homeland.

But the lure of playing in Italy looks set to prove too much for Helander.

Helander made just 35 league starts for Rangers after a £3.5 million from Bologna four years ago and netted an Old Firm winner in a 1-0 victory in August 2021.

He first signed for Malmo 12 years ago and spent four years with them before going to Italy.

The Rangers Review team is taking the hugely-popular morning briefing LIVE at New Edmiston House on July 28.

And, we're delighted to announce that none other than Barry Ferguson will join our top team of Jonny McFarlane, Joshua Barrie, Stevie Clifford and Derek Clark.

The doors will open at 6.30pm giving you time to grab a beer or soft drink before we head into an hour of debate and chat ahead of the new season; expect new signing assessments, tactical analysis, predictions and the usual banter. Then, Derek will host an exclusive chat with Barry, gaining insight into his two trophy-laden spells at the club and his take on Michael Beale's rebuild.

Tickets start at just £21.50 and can be purchased HERE.
