FORMER Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has announced his retirement from football in an emotional Instagram post.
The former Scotland international had a storied career that included playing for clubs such as Liverpool and Blackpool, as well as the Ibrox side.
He had left Dundee at the end of last season, and his future in the game was left up in the air.
However, he has now officially announced he is done with professional football.
The video he posted on social media contained a video of him signing as a teenager at for the Light Blues.
It was from the BBC Scotland show Blue Heaven, which aired in the early 2000s.
He is shown signing a three-year deal, complete with him being moved into digs in Glasgow from Dundee.
There is also the promise from Dutch academy boss Jan Derks of £1000 for every first team match he played.
Adam went on to make more than 50 appearances for the Ibrox men, before moving south to Blackpool and kick-starting his career south of the border.
He is now starting a career in coaching.
In a statement as part of the post he wrote: "I feel now is the right time to announce my retirement as a player.
"I’ve been lucky enough to play for some of the biggest clubs in the world.
"From Champions League nights at Ibrox for Rangers, winning promotion into the Premier League as Blackpool captain, pulling on the famous Liverpool shirt and scoring in front of The Kop, eight incredible seasons at Stoke City to guiding my boyhood club to promotion and playing 26 times for Scotland - It’s not been a bad ride.
"A huge thank you goes to Glasgow Rangers, Ross County,St Mirren, Blackpool, Liverpool, Stoke City, Reading and Dundee’s supporters - hopefully I’ve given you all some memorable moments along the way.
"For now it’s time for me to move into coaching, something I feel incredibly passionate about and have been enjoying for the last few months.
"I’d like to thank my parents, my sister and brothers, my wife Sophie, children Jack, Anabella and Louis and all my family and friends for their support over the last 20 years - couldn’t have done any of it without you.
"It’s been a pleasure."
