Ex-Rangers boss Van Bronckhorst's staggering £4.5m Besiktas wages & payoff explained

Former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will walk away from Besiktas with a cool £4.5 million for six months' work.

The ex-Ibrox manager was axed by the Turkish club after a Europa League loss to Maccabi Tel-Aviv, which followed a run of four games without a win in the league.

It left the Istanbul club floundering in sixth place in the title race and Besiktas pulled the plug on the Dutchman.

However, van Bronckhorst's deal reportedly included a severance payment of £2 million for him and an additional £1 million for his team of coaches.

Van Bronckhorst, who led Rangers to a Europa League Final which they lost on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt, had already earned £2.5 million in wages for his time at the club.

Besiktas stated: We have parted ways with coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst. We want to thank him for everything he has done for the club and wish him the best in his future career."

Serdar Topraktepe has been appointed as caretaker boss to replace van Bronckhorst.
