Ex-Rangers and Scotland star joins Open Goal Broomhill as Si Ferry seals stunning coup

Open Goal Broomhill have pulled off a stunning coup by landing former Rangers and Kilmarnock star Kirk Broadfoot.

The former Scotland international has put pen to paper to join Si Ferry's new-look side for their Lowland League campaign. The former Peterhead star is believed to have beaten a host of Scottish Championship and League One clubs to land the 37-year-old. He departed Inverness Caley Thistle at the end of the last season after the Highland outfit lost out to St Johnstone in the Premiership play-offs.

They were keen to retain the veteran stopper for another campaign but he wanted to make the move back to the central belt for family reasons. Part of his deal to join Broomhill will reportedly see him undertake coaching duties. A club statement on Twitter read: "@OGBroomhill_FC are ecstatic to announce the signing of former Rangers, St Mirren, Kilmarnock & Inverness centre-falf, Kirk Broadfoot! The UEFA Cup Finalist joins 2 weeks ahead of our 1st game vs Spartans!."

Broadfoot has played for the likes of St Mirren, Rangers, Rotherham, Blackpool, Kilmarnock and Inverness during his playing career as well as landing international honours.

Ex-Celtic kid Paul Slane has came out of retirement to play and coach with preparations for the new campaign well underway.

They will play their home games at Broadwood Stadium this season.

Si Ferry and Co kick off their league campaign at home to Spartans on July 23 with a 3pm kick-off.

They than face back-to-back away trips against Cowdenbeath and Civil Service Strollers before hosting East Kilbride.
