Ex-Rangers and Hibs star Jason Cummings on learning 'emotional' World Cup news after MISSING call

Jason Cummings has revealed he teared up after learning his World Cup fate.

The former Rangers and Hibs star was handed a spot in Graham Arnold's 26-man Australia squad for the finals in Qatar later this month in a real dream come true year for the striker. He moved to Central Coast Mariners last year to reboot his career and now he will get to showcase his talents on the global stage as the Socceroos come up against France, Denmark and Tunisia in their group section.

In true Cummings fashion, he missed the first call to tell him the big news as he was SLEEPING but after reading a text that confirmed he was on the plane, he admits he jumped out his bed and phoned his mum straight away as the emotions took over. He also got to see his dog on the FaceTime call in what he described as a 'surreal moment'. Speaking about receiving the big news, he said: "I actually got woken up by Graham, he phoned me at half seven in the morning. I thought 'he never phones me, it must be something to do with the Socceroos. I actually missed the call because I was still half asleep.

"I went and checked my phone and the boy James from the Socceroos had messaged me saying 'Hi Jason, congratulations! You're going to Qatar.' The euphoria that came over me, I just jumped out of bed. I was buzzing! I actually got a bit emotional as well, when I found out I was tearing up a wee bit.

"I phoned my mum straight away, I saw my dog on facetime, and my family were just over the moon. It was a surreal moment."

Cummings is joined by a host of SPFL stars taking on the World Cup by storm as part of the Australia squad.

The former Rangers and Easter Road favourite is joined by Martin Boyle from his former club while Hearts trio Cammy Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson are all in.

Celtic's Aaron Mooy has also been selected but there is no space for Tom Rogic.
