Ex-Rangers ace Morelos booed by own fans after scoring as Santos blast 'disrespect'

Santos boss Fabio Carille has defended former Rangers star Alfredo Morelos after he was booed by his own fans even after scoring a goal.

The Colombian striker has endured a difficult time since signing for Pele's old club last September with Santos relegated from Brazil's top flight last year for the first time in their history.

Morelos had to renegotiate his contract and hired a personal fitness trainer to get into shape.

He netted his second Serie B goal of the season as Santos romped to a 4-0 win over Brusque, but he was roundly booed by his own fans despite the goal.

And Santos boss Carille pleaded with their fans after the game to give Morelos a break.

He said: "Alfredo Morelos has our respect and when the fans react like that to him, they are actually disrespecting the coaching staff too because we select him.

"He worked hard, scored a goal and was excellent.

"I actually had to say to him the other day to reduce his workload at the gym because he is training too hard at the moment.

"He had dedicated himself to the gym.and is giving everything to get fit.

"Alfredo has our support and confidence in his abilities."
