Ex-Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos breaks silence on car crash

Alfredo Morelos has broken his silence in the media following his return to football after an alleged drink driving crash last month.

The former Rangers player was involved in a serious collision in Colombia around two weeks ago.

His car crashed into a motorcyclist as he headed to Atletico Nacional training.

The 28-year-old striker was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.

This placed Morelos' future in football in doubt.

However, last night he was restored to Atletico's starting XI as they drew 1-1 with city rivals Independiente Medellin.

It was his second appearance back in Efrain Juarez's side, having come on as a substitute in last week's game against Deportivo Pereira. Juarez, formerly of Celtic, is the team's head coach.

Speaking to local media post-match last night, Morelos said: "As a human being, everyone makes mistakes.

"I feel very calm, very grateful to him [Juarez], to my teammates, to the board, to the owners who gave me the opportunity again.”

Morelos is currently on loan at Atletico Nacional from Brazilian giants Santos.

Atletico took disciplinary action against the forward following his alleged driving offence.

However, they opted against terminating his loan deal and instead drafted him back into the team when the manager deemed it the right time.
