During the contested bail hearing, Garda Elaine Markham claimed the accused had evaded arrest and tried to run when located on Friday.
Garda Markham told the court the accused kicked the man unconscious onto the floor and then “stomped the head of the defenceless injured party”.
The court heard he allegedly grabbed a guitar from a busker and swung it at the man’s head before running and kicking him in the head.
Mr Finnegan, yet to indicate a plea, claimed “the young fella”, referring to the complainant, had asked him for a “straightener” fight on the date of the incident, which was caught on CCTV.
Judge Hughes denied bail to Mr Finnegan and remanded him in custody to appear again next week.
