Ex-NFL QB Shoots His Shot for Bears QB Coach Vacancy

The Chicago Bears are in need of a new quarterbacks coach after head coach Matt Eberflus fired Andrew Janocko on Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel is interested. The longtime backup signal-caller, who spent 14 seasons in the league, threw his name in the mix for the Bears’ vacancy.

“I’m available,” Daniel tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Daniel spent time in the NFL with seven different teams, including the Bears, Washington (now the Commanders) where his career began, two stints with the New Orleans Saints, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Lions, and the Los Angeles Chargers. He retired from the NFL in September and began a full-time media career with several platforms, including NFL Network.

The 37-year-old recently completed a film breakdown of each Bears game quarterback Justin Fields played during the 2023 NFL season. In doing so, Daniel believes that Fields—based on his pocket movement, pocket awareness and arm strength—is still the franchise’s “quarterback of the future.”

Eberflus’s next choice for the franchise’s quarterbacks coach will be important, considering the Bears must decide if they will keep Fields as the starter going forward. However, Chicago holds the No. 1 pick in this year’s upcoming draft with the opportunity to potentially select a dynamic quarterback in LSU’s Jayden Daniels, USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

But for now, Daniel believes he can aid in the process of rectifying Chicago’s struggles at the quarterback position.
