Ex-Newcastle United midfielder among favourites for vacant Queens Park Rangers job

Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Bowyer is among the favourites for the vacant Queens Park Rangers job after former boss Michael Beale became Rangers manager earlier this week.

Bowyer was sacked by Birmingham City in July after just 16 months in charge following a run of just four wins in his last 26 games in charge and a 20th-place finish in the Championship.

The 45-year-old played 98 times for the Magpies between 2003 and 2006 and is probably best remembered for his on-field brawl with teammate Keiron Dyer which led to his sending off, a three-match ban and numerous fines from both the FA, Newcastle and the Northumbria Police.

Bowyer is currently 10/1 for the role, the same odds as former Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder and current Manchester City reserves boss Brian Barry-Murphy.

The full odds for the role are as follows (according to BetVictor, correct at time of writing)…

Neil Critchley - 1/1

Anthony Barry - 6/1

Brian Barry-Murphy - 10/1

Chris Wilder - 10/1

Lee Bowyer - 10/1

Steve Morison - 12/1

Dorival Junior - 16/1

Scott Parker - 16/1

Sean Dyche - 16/1

Mark Robins - 16/1

Gareth Ainsworth - 20/1

Nuno Espirito Santo - 20/1
