Ex-Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce sacked by West Bromwich Albion following dire run of form

West Brom have parted company with former Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce. His backroom staff Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Alex Bruce have also left the Hawthorns.

Bruce avoided a third defeat on the bounce with a goalless draw against Luton Town on Saturday but extended West Brom's winless run to nine matches in all competitions.

The Baggies have collected just one win from their opening 13 league games (D8 L4) and currently sit in the Championship relegation zone in 22nd place.

Bruce succeeded Valerien Ismael in February after being dismissed by Newcastle in October 2021. The 61-year-old won eight of his 32 games (D12, L12) and leaves West Brom with a 25% win rate.

West Brom U21s coach Richard Beale will take interim charge and will be assisted by James Morrison and Gary Walsh.

West Brom issued the following statement: "The club would like to place on record its thanks to Steve Bruce and his coaching staff for their efforts since arriving in February.

"The process of recruiting a new Manager is now under way and an appointment will be confirmed in due course."
