Ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane calls Leeds fans and players 'silly' as he discusses rivalry

Manchester United travel to Elland Road this afternoon to face old foes Leeds in the Premier League.

The rivalry between the two clubs is fierce and has only intensified during Leeds' absence from the top flight.

But following the club's promotion back to the Premier League in 2020, United now have another tough derby to add to their fixture list.

One player who relished his side's rivalries back in his playing days was Roy Keane.

The former United captain has had his say on the club's rivalry with Leeds, claiming they're 'silly' to think they're as big a club as United.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Leeds would certainly be up there with the rivalries like Liverpool and Arsenal.

"Obviously Man City weren't so strong when I was playing but Leeds was up there.

"It was fantastic. The beauty of them is that I think Leeds will have a go at United, they always did.

"They always came and had a go at United.

"I think Leeds' players and supporters, it's probably silly of them to think they're as big as Man United as they're not, but they always have a go, I'll give them that.

"They'd always be up for a physical battle. It was always tense, there was obviously a lot of rivalry with the supporters, a lot of hatred there."

United are looking to do the double over Leeds this afternoon after beating them 5-1 on the opening day of the season at Old Trafford.
