Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has claimed that the ‘Ryan Reynolds’ connection could tempt Cristiano Ronaldo to join Wrexham.
The legendary Portuguese star is contracted at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr until next summer.
Aged 39, he is expected to continue his career by signing a new deal or finding a new club.
He still has a huge influence both on and off the field. He recently scored the 910th goal of his career and aims to reach 1,000.
Off-pitch he has started a YouTube channel which has picked up 68 million followers in three months.
Meulensteen, who previously worked with Ronaldo, believes a move to Wrexham could help the footballer go into Hollywood.
Ryan Reynolds Could Help Cristiano Ronaldo Into Hollywood
Wrexham have risen through the ranks to League One with the help of Hollywood celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Rene Meulenesteen can imagine Cristiano Ronaldo pursuing an acting career one day, and believes linking up with Reynolds at Wrexham could help him fulfill that ambition.
“Cristiano Ronaldo to Wrexham? Anything can happen in football,” Meulensteen told TribalFootball.com as per the Daily Mail. ‘The main thing he would consider is could he be successful in that environment?
“It’s an intriguing idea and with his new profile on social media it might help that stretch into Hollywood with the Ryan Reynolds connection.
“Who knows, he might end up being the next James Bond. If he wants to go down the film and celebrity route then in terms of Wrexham I say go for it.”
A move to Wrexham after his contract expires next summer though could see him play in the third tier of English football. Though Wrexham are in the play-off spots currently to potentially make the Championship.
Wrexham Move Would Be ‘Clever’
Former Chelsea defender Frank Lebouef also believes Cristiano Ronaldo could join Wrexham.
Leboeuf revealed he believes Ronaldo is “clever enough” to sign for Wrexham.
“You know what? There is a chance for one reason,” Leboeuf said. “I have in my phone an interview that I made with Ronaldo in the US for ESPN when I asked him if he wanted to be an actor after his career, and he said, ‘Oh, why not’.
“And so, I’m thinking that Ronaldo is clever enough to sign for Wrexham to after his career play in a beautiful Hollywood movie.
“And why not, why not? I mean, if he loves football and wants to play for Wrexham, but at the same time is thinking about being a fantastic actor in Hollywood.”
