Ex-Lions WR Danny Amendola announces his NFL retirement

Longtime NFL wideout Danny Amendola has decided that 13 seasons of pro football is enough. Amendola announced his retirement on Monday as training camps were kicking off around the league.

Amendola spent two seasons in Detroit. The slot specialist caught 108 passes in 29 games with the Lions in the 2019-2020 seasons. Amendola posted his top career YPC figure in 2020, gaining 13.1 yards on average in his 46 receptions.

The Lions made no effort to bring Amendola back for the 2021 season. The Houston-area native joined his hometown Texans and played in eight games before ending the season on I.R.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated in a tweet that there was still legitimate interest from NFL teams in Amendola, now 36.

Good luck to Amendola, one of the league’s best undrafted success stories in recent times. He retires 82nd on the NFL’s all-time receptions list with 617.
