Ex-Leeds United star left searching for positives as he points finger following Chelsea loss

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has laid blame on Jesse Marsch for the manner of his side's defeat against Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Whites were defeated 3-0 at Elland Road, with Daniel James sent off in the first half for a challenge on Mateo Kovacic but Marsch was positive about his side's performance after the game.

"Obviously we gave up an early goal and that was not our goal, we talked about keeping it 0-0 as long as possible to give ourselves a chance," he said. "I thought we were aggressive, we were getting after them and the game was there for us. The red card changed the match."

Hearing Marsch appraise his side's performance, Robinson was in strong disagreement. He gave his own assessment to BBC Football Daily, with the utilisation of Raphinha as a right wing-back being one of the primary causes of concern.

"I didn't witness the same game as what he's [Marsch] is talking about. I thought Leeds were poor tonight, "said Robinson.

"They caused themselves a lot of problems again by conceding the early goal. They've got a real problem with discipline. Luke Ayling's sending off at the weekend against Arsenal and then Dan James' inexplicable tackle.

"You've got to question the manager, the way he's set the team up. He played five at the back and Leeds ' most creative player, attacking player, goalscorer, Raphinha - he plays him as a right wing-back. It wasn't until Dan James got sent off that he moved Raphinha further up the field. There wasn't a lot of positives to take out of that game tonight."

Leeds are now left with two games to attempt to save themselves by overhauling one of Everton or Burnley. However, the Whites have the disadvantage of having played a game more than their rivals, whilst also being on the worst form of the three.
