Ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson makes Victor Orta influence claim

Former Leeds United shot stopper Paul Robinson reckons Whites director of football Victor Orta might have seen his influence weakened at Elland Road since the arrival of Jesse Marsch.

Orta has been in post as Leeds' director of football since 2017 back when Andrea Radrizzani purchased the club from Massimo Cellino.

However, in recent years, there has been plenty of talk around Leeds and a potential takeover by the investment wing of NFL giants the San Francisco 49ers, who currently own a 44 per cent stake in the club.

Earlier this month, reports emerged that claimed 49ers Enterprises were preparing a full takeover of Leeds, which would end Radrizzani's ownership.

Leeds already have an American manager in Marsch, and also signed two USA internationals last summer in the form of Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson.

And Robinson reckons Marsch's input over transfer targets, coupled with a potential takeover, could have weakened Orta's influence at the club.

"It would seem that his input is becoming less," Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

"You don’t see what’s going on behind the scenes. But the manager seems to have had an influx of players he wants so it seems like Victor’s had his wings clipped a bit.

"Whether that’s true or not, we don’t know. But we see and hear less of him and I suspect if that is the case, it’s not an environment he would enjoy working in.

"If an opportunity arose – which there will be because he’s had a good record at Leeds – I’m sure there’d be a number of teams who’d take him.

"As far as Leeds go, it’ll be interesting to see what they do in the next window with the players that come in and where they come from. If you look at the summer, you cannot really say that Victor’s fingerprints were on many of the signings."
