Kieran Sadlier has sealed a move to Bolton Wanderers from Rotheram who are poised to confirm Georgie Kelly’s arrival.
Sadlier, who won a league and FAI Cup double with Cork City in 2017 before joining Doncaster Rovers, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal.
The former Ireland Under-21 international was frustrated by his lack of regular first-team opportunities and has joined the Millers’ League One rivals.
Bolton boss Ian Evatt tried to sign Sadlier last summer and again at the start of this transfer window, but his patience has finally been rewarded.
“It didn’t look like it was going to happen and then we’ve managed to get it done and over the line. I think he’s delighted and we’re delighted,” said Evatt.
“He’s used to winning football matches. He’s been a big part of the Rotherham team that’s doing really well in this division.
“He’s a goalscorer at this level, who can play in a number of positions and it’s a no-brainer for us.
“He’s a player that improves us and makes us better, which we are trying to do in this window.”
Rotherham boss Paul Warne - who is about to land ex-Bohs star Kelly - admits Sadlier was frustrated at the club.
Warne said: "Had I kept him beyond the window and then still played him one game in six, would I have had the same Kieran? I don't think I would have.
"I'm not saying he would have downed tools, I just don't if he'd have had the full level of motivation we need to get promoted. Sometimes you can see it in a player's eyes.
"He's a really good footballer, a really technical player. Just because it doesn't work here for him doesn't mean he's not going to have an amazing career somewhere else."
