Ex-Knick Amar’e Stoudemire arrested on battery charges after allegedly punching daughter: reports

Former Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire was arrested early Sunday morning in his Miami condo on one count of misdemeanor battery and a domestic violence charge, according to reports.

An arrest report obtained by the Miami Herald stated the alleged victim is Stoudemire’s daughter, but doesn’t specify which of one his two daughters was involved. The report also stated Stoudemire punched his daughter in the jaw and slapped her hard enough to draw blood.

As of Sunday morning, Stoudemire remained in Miami-Dade Corrections custody with a $1,500 bond.

“I observed blood stains on the victim’s sweater and sweatpants,” the arrest report stated. “The mother of the victim showed me the photo she received from her daughter, which shows the victim crying and blood running down her face.”

Prior to the alleged domestic dispute, the former star had posted on his Instagram page that he graduated from the University of Miami with his MBA degree.

The arrest report said Alexis Stoudemire, Amar’e’s ex-wife, picked up her daughter and two sons after receiving a photo and a plea for help from the victim.

The report said Amar’e Stoudemire told authorities the child had called her mother to pick her up “because she was sad” and she “was sad because she received a whooping from him for being disrespectful and a liar.”

Amar’e Stoudemire then took his right to remain silent, according to the report.

The Phoenix Suns drafted Stoudemire ninth overall in the 2002 NBA Draft and won Rookie of the Year for the 2002-2003 season. He spent eight seasons with the Suns, totaling five All-Star appearances during that tenure. Stoudemire then departed Phoenix and signed a five-year deal with the Knicks in 2010. The forward spent five seasons with the Knicks, averaging 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
