Ex-Hibs boss Shaun Maloney to Dundee latest as Vincent Kompany 'could block' Dens Park switch

Shaun Maloney could be the subject of a sensational 11th hour bid to block his move to Dundee, according to reports.

The former Hibs boss is the frontrunner to replace Mark McGhee at Dens Park following the Dark Blues' relegation to the Scottish Championship.

Ex-Celtic and Scotland international Maloney only lasted four months in the Easter Road hotseat and has since been replaced by one-time Sunderland boss Lee Johnson.

But the Scottish Sun report that Manchester City and Belgium legend Vincent Kompany is keen to link up with his former Red Devils coach - if he takes over at Burnley.

The 36-year-old has been in charge at Anderlecht for the past two seasons, but left his post earlier this week ahead of his expected appointment at Turf Moor.

Kompany would be taking his first steps into British management with the English Championship club and would be keen on a coach with experience of the leagues.

Maloney fits the bill and a move south with Burnley could tempt him to reject the chance of taking over the top job at Dundee.

Gordon Strachan worked with Maloney for both Celtic and Scotland and is a big fan.

Discussions are believed to be ongoing with the Dark Blues wanted a new boss in place by the weekend.
