Ex-Hamilton Accies boss in the frame for Alloa hot seat

Former Hamilton Accies boss Brian Rice is believed to be on the verge of being appointed boss at League One club Alloa Athletic.

Rice is reported by the Scottish Sun to have held positive talks with the Wasps to take over from former Rangers hero Barry Ferguson, who was sacked last week.

The 58-year-old quit the top job at Accies in August following relegation from the Premiership and a sticky start to their Championship campaign.

Rice is highly regarded as a coach, and was long-term assistant to John Hughes at clubs including Hibs, Falkirk and Inverness, and was helping out at Dunfermline Athletic on a non-contract basis.

Ferguson was dismissed from Alloa last week after taking just one win from the last 11 games.

Alloa are eighth in League One, and travel to Dumbarton, who sit one place and a point above them.
