Ex-Foreign Minister Resigns From Communist Party’s Central Committee

What’s new: The Communist Party of China’s Central Committee has accepted former foreign minister Qin Gang’s resignation from the party’s top decision-making body, according to an official communique released Thursday.

The decision was announced following the 20th Central Committee’s third plenary session, which wrapped up Thursday.

Qin was removed as foreign minister in July 2023, after around seven months in the position. He was dismissed from his state councilor role the following October.

What’s more: The Central Committee also confirmed that former defense minister Li Shangfu, former People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Rocket Force commander Li Yuchao, and former Central Committee alternate member Sun Jinming had all been expelled from the party, according to the communique.

Three Central Committee alternates, Ding Xiangqun, Yu Lijun and Yu Jihong, have been made full members of the committee, the communique stated.
