There’s no doubt that Dave Hand is one of the favourite contestants on Married At First Sight (MAFS). However, according to claims by friends of his ex-fiancé, we’re not seeing the real Dave on the show — and he might have been looking for clout all along.
Before the gentle giant tied the on-screen knot to Jamie Marinos, Dave reportedly dated Stephanie Jaksch for four years before they got engaged in 2022. However, the pair called off their engagement a year later. Now, a “close friend” of Jaksch has claimed to Woman’s Day that he immediately sought out a reality television gig following their split.
“They split, and as we all found out, he went straight on to apply to go on reality TV!” the friend claimed, noting that they connected the dots when they realised that “applications for FBoy Island closed around the time of their split in November 2023.”
While Dave clearly didn’t land a spot on FBoy Island (boo, he would’ve been hilarious), Woman’s Day claims that the production company Endemol Shine took a liking to Dave and “offered him MAFS, we he signed on to appear in early 2024″.
While things have been over for a while between Dave and Stephanie, the insider claims that she discovered her ex-fiancé would be appearing on the beloved reality show through the promos.
“No one wants to hear that their ex-fiancé is getting married, let alone have that happen on national TV!” the source claimed.
The real kicker? Apparently Stephanie doesn’t agree with Dave’s nice guy portrayal on the show.
“She’s had enough of his ‘good guy’ narrative,” the source continued.
“Dave wasn’t ready for a serious relationship with Steph. That was very clear when they broke up. It is hard to imagine much had changed in the months between separating from her and going on MAFS.”
Despite her alleged friend speaking out, Stephanie reportedly “does not want to get involved with anything related to Dave or MAFS“.
According to the Daily Mail, things are about to take a negative turn for golden couple Dave and Jamie after Dave is paired with Veronica Cloherty for the couple swap challenge.
“Everyone already knew Dave wasn’t really into Jamie,” the source said, claiming that he was never really invested in her.
“With Jamie, it always felt forced. But with Veronica, it was effortless. Zero pressure, no awkwardness — just easy conversation and natural chemistry. The moment he felt that difference, he couldn’t unsee it.”
Considering Jamie just told Dave she loved him, we hope this isn’t the case!
