Ex-Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas teases return to ITV soap

Adam Thomas has teased a return to Emmerdale as he admitted that the ITV soap “holds a special place in his heart.” The actor appeared on Lorraine Kelly’s ITV morning show and spoke about his recent return to Waterloo Road.

The new revival series began on BBC One last night, with Adam playing his role of former bad boy pupil-turned-parent Donte Charles.

This is the first time the show has returned to screens in almost eight years after it was axed. Talk soon turned to the star's stint on Emmerdale and whether he would ever return to the hit ITV soap.

Adam joined the cast of Emmerdale in July 2009 as Adam Barton. During his time on the show he was involved in a number of dramatic storylines including the time he supported Aaron Dingle as he struggled with his sexuality.

He went to prison after setting fire to a garage while Cain Dingle was still inside and had to deal with his sister's death as a result of a heroin overdose. Adam left the show in 2018.

Lorraine asked: “Emmerdale, which is a huge show that is part of your life - there is unfinished business there so is the door open, would you be happy to go back?”

Adam laughed and joked: “Do you know something that I don’t?” as Lorraine continued: “I’m just putting it out there. It is such a brilliant place to work and you must miss your friends.”

Adam admitted: “That is what I miss the most, it’s the cast because they are just incredible. You genuinely do become a huge family and I just miss them all so much so never say never because I would love to go back one day.”

Lorraine jumped in: “If the story was right.” Adam added: “Yes if the story was right definitely. It has always held a special place in my heart, Emmerdale.”
