Ex-Cop Beau Lamarre-Condon’s Psych Report Looms In Double Murder Case

beau lamarre-condon murder case

The fate of former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon — who is accused of the alleged double murder of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies — could depend on an psychiatric report expected in coming weeks into his state of mind.

A forensic psychologist report is expected to be issued on April 1, the Downing Centre Local Court has been told. After this, Lamarre-Condon’s legal team is expected to review the findings until April 30 and meet with prosecutors to determine next steps.

Forensic mental health reports help lawyers assess whether an accused individual was suffering from a severe psychological condition that prevents them from being held “criminally responsible” for their actions.

If Lamarre-Condon is found not to be “criminally responsible” he could be placed under the care of the forensic mental health system, which has the authority to release individuals once deemed no longer a threat to the public, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

Lamarre-Condon — who was an active duty police officer at the time — is facing charges for the alleged double murder of Qantas flight attendant Davies, 29, and TV presenter Baird, 26, using his police-issued gun and dumping their bodies in surfboard bags.

Police allege Lamarre-Condon shot the two men at Baird’s inner Sydney home on February 19 and eventually turned himself in to Bondi Police Station on February 23.

A days later, the bodies were discovered on February 27 inside surfboard bags near a rural property in Bungonia, near Goulburn, around 200 kilometres southwest of Sydney.

Lamarre-Condon was officially removed from the NSW Police force mid-March 2024.

He is charged with two counts of domestic violence-related murder and one count of break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

No plea has been entered to the two counts of domestic violence murder and Lamarre-Condon remains in the jurisdiction of the Local Court.

In January, the 29-year-old’s Legal Aid lawyer Alex Curnick indicated testing by a forensic psychiatrist was expected in early March.

Last year, John Walford — who served as Beau Lamarre-Condon’s lawyer before representation switched to Legal Aid — told the media he was unsure how his client would plead, although he indicated mental health would “probably” be part of the defence.

Such a legal defence would have to challenge the extensive forensic evidence police claim shows Lamarre-Condon both pulled the trigger and planned the murder for days. Investigators allege Lamarre-Condon stalked Baird, potentially breaking into his home and damaging the television presenter’s car in the days leading up to the alleged murder, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

The publication also reported Lamarre-Condon had allegedly purchased a surf-board bag from a Miranda shop prior to the incident.

Lamarre-Condon is next expected in court on May 20, some 15 months since he was taken into custody.
