Ex-Celtic star Patrick Roberts in 'we go again' Sunderland rally cry as Amad Diallo shares the love

Patrick Roberts has sent an 11 word message to the Sunderland support as he roared: 'We go again!'

The former Celtic star played a key role this season alongside former Rangers loanee Amad Diallo as the Black Cats fell just short of reaching Wembley for the match billed as the richest game in world football. Tony Mowbray and his troops only secured promotion to the English Championship last season but enjoyed a stunning return by finishing sixth on the final day of the season.

That dramatic finale at Preston meant a shot at glory against Luton Town in a bid to reach the play-off final. An Amad Diallo inspired wonder-strike handed them a 2-1 advantage after leg one at the Stadium of Light but the Hatters turned the game around at Kenilworth Road to set up a winner takes all occasion with Coventry City - who knocked out Middlesbrough.

It means another season in England's second tier for Sunderland and Roberts. But despite the disappointment at the final hurdle it has been a season of more ups then downs and the former Hoops attacker has taken to social media to deliver a message to the fans.

Alongside a picture of him applauding the supporters, he wrote on Instagram: "Thank you for all the support this season! We go again!."

Diallo - who is set to get a big chance at Manchester United this summer under Erik ten Hag - made a huge impression at the club and has make himself a real favourite amongst the fans after his 14 goals this campaign. He was named the club Young Player of the Year and was even serenaded by the home support in his final league match at the Stadium of Light.

The impression the club has made on him is also clear as he commented on Roberts' picture with two red love hearts. Scotland international and ex-SPFL striker Ross Stewart also showed his appreciation by handing the post a like.
