Ex-Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay signing with Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are signing former Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay to a one-year contract, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

Details of the contract are not yet known.

Lindsay, though, last played for the Broncos in 2020. The 27-year-old Colorado native played for both the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins last season. Cumulatively, he totaled 88 carries for 249 yards and one touchdown in 2021. Lindsay added four receptions on five targets and another touchdown receiving as well.

Lindsay burst onto the scene as an undrafted rookie free agent for the Broncos in 2018. He got fellow RB Terrell Davis‘ approval to don No. 30 after an impressive preseason — one in which many fantasy football pundits pounded the table for fellow then-rookie RB Royce Freeman (it’s okay to be wrong).

In the regular season that year, Lindsay rushed for over 1,000 yards and totaled 10 total touchdowns (nine rushing, one receiving). He made the Pro Bowl as well. The following season, Lindsay became the first undrafted RB to total two 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Let alone the fact he did it consecutively in his first two (!) professional seasons.

Now in Indianapolis, Lindsay is battling to backup Jonathon Taylor. Good luck. More impressive, as an undrafted free agent, he’s signing his fourth NFL contract, displaying longevity as once a longshot. Check out Lindsay’s career stats before he adds to the plentiful production next season with the Colts.
