The Baltimore Ravens are signing former Denver Broncos running back Melvin Gordon to a one-year contract worth up to $3.1 million, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gordon, 30, spent the first five years of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers before joining the Broncos in 2020. He rushed for 2,222 yards and 19 touchdowns in 41 games in Denver but struggled with fumbles, putting the ball on the ground 12 times before being cut.
The Broncos released Gordon last November and he landed on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite not playing in any games, Gordon received a Super Bowl ring for Kansas City’s title last season. He became a free agent at the conclusion of the 2022 season.
Gordon will join a Ravens backfield that already includes J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. Gordon’s time as a workhorse running back seems to be in the past. The veteran will now join Baltimore’s backfield committee.
Back in Denver, the Broncos are moving forward with Javonte Williams and the team signed Samaje Perine this offseason.
Elsewhere on the free agency front, former Denver cornerback Ronald Darby is working out for the Houston Texans on Friday.
